OU and MS Office 2007
The Chairman of the OSC, Gerry Gavigan, has written to Professor Brenda Gourley, the Vice Chancellor of the Open University to express disappointment that the OU is supporting an office suite that goes against so much of the tradition of the OU and to encourage the OU to consider implementing ICT policies that are closer to the original objectives of the University.

OSC response to UK COI
The OSC has reponded to the "Public consultation on browser standards for public sector websites" [link (new page)] issued by the UK COI (Central Office of Information).
"We consider the suggested approach based on supporting specific browsers and / or operating systems to be misguided ... [rather] the COI should actively promote the exclusive use of W3C standards on public sector websites."

BBC Trust & OSC
The BBC Trust and the Open Source Consortium (OSC) have agreed the promotion of Microsoft by the BBC should end. After a meeting with the OSC, the BBC Trust restated its commitment to a platform agnostic solution for the iPlayer's catch-up service and agreed that the recently launched streaming service was only an interim solution. |
