While watching the UK Government prevaricate over what is an open standard and what to do about it all, we missed something far more interesting from the USA.
Memerised by a government answer to an FOI request that the debate on open standards was raging in the press and with lobbying organisations we missed the release of Lightweight Portable Security Linux. While you can read it all yourself I wanted to pull out a few quotes:
Lightweight Portable Security (LPS) creates a secure [1] end node from trusted media on almost any Intel-based computer (PC or Mac)
The accredited LPS-Remote Access is only for accessing your organization's private network
LPS-Public is a safer, general-purpose solution for using web-based applications
A user can improve security by rebooting [2] between sessions, or when about to undertake a sensitive transaction. For example, boot LPS immediately before performing any online banking transactions [3].
