Public sector procurers have told us that the perceived risk of doing business with smaller companies is an issue when considering Open Source Software. From the start, the OSC has sought to remove this risk, through the OSC Guarantee. I agree to treat as a priority picking up bonded work which another OSC member is unable to complete,when requested to do so by the OSC. Every company joining the OSC as a full member signs up to this, giving customers confidence that, should there be an issue with work undertaken by the OSC via a member company, other companies will be able to take the work over. Using popular Open Source projects as building blocks makes this guarantee even stronger. For developers to get up to speed with a new piece of proprietary software can take months. By using Open Source Software, we can massively reduce that learning curve, again lessening the risk.
